Accessibility at Forever Home

We want anyone looking for a dog — or listing one — to be able to use this site, whatever tools they browse with.

Working draft — pending review.

What we're aiming for

We aim to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA as our technical target. We’re not claiming to be fully compliant or “100% ADA compliant” — Forever Home is an early project and accessibility is an ongoing effort. Some things aren’t there yet, and we’re improving them as we go.

What the site supports today

  • Keyboard navigation, including a “skip to main content” link and a visible focus outline.
  • Semantic HTML structure — real headings, landmarks, buttons, and links.
  • Alternative text on images, and empty alt text on purely decorative ones.
  • Form fields with associated labels, and error messages that assistive technology can announce.
  • Respect for the “reduced motion” setting — the opening animation is minimized or skipped if you’ve asked your device to reduce motion.
  • Color choices checked for contrast, with important information conveyed by text, not color alone.

Known gaps

We haven’t finished testing every page with screen readers and keyboard-only navigation, and some areas still need work. If you hit a wall, we’d genuinely like to hear about it — it helps us fix the right things.

Report a barrier

If something on Forever Home is hard or impossible to use, please tell us through the contact page. Let us know what you were trying to do, the page you were on, and the device or assistive technology you were using, and we’ll look into it.
